Augusto de Alcântara Souza. Alcântara, from the Arabic al-Qantara, means bridge — it is also a town in Portugal where my ancestors probably lived, as did the Souzas. I was born in Santa Bárbara and grew up in Barão de Cocais, both towns near Belo Horizonte, in Minas Gerais, the state where I live.
